SapientNitro and REWE transform everyday shopping to a mobile experience
(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Offer of the week: there's a new digital helper now out for customers of German supermarket chain REWE. The brand-new REWE app for iOS and Android platforms offers Smartphone users a range of practical features for planning their shopping trip, as well as ideas and help in store. The app is authored by SapientNitro, which manages the REWE Mobile account.
"The mobile channel is a critical complement to our in-store offering. Through mobile, we can offer our customers extra services with genuine added value - for example, shoppers can use the app to find out what's currently on offer in their local store, or have their shopping list synchronized with their user profile. The app's capabilities are helping us narrow the gap between the POS and the customer," says Marcus Haus, Head of Marketing at REWE Markt GmbH.
In developing the app, the SapientNitro Mobile Experience Studio took care to deliver the best possible user experience in a shopping situation. All the app's functions can be operated with one hand, and also work in offline mode. This also goes for the interactive shopping list, designed to be fully touch operated. Customers can add items to their list by scanning barcodes, by voice input or keyboard, and sort the list in their preferred way. They can also synchronize their Smartphone list with their shopping list created on rewe.de.
The app's feature set is completed by a store search function, enabling customers to locate their nearest REWE store in seconds and save up to three stores as favorites. For inspiration in the store, customers can open the app's own recipe world and pick what to cook - and with just one click add all the ingredients to their shopping list. Recipes come complete with instructions, cooking times, nutritional value, difficulty, plus a picture of the finished dish. Having cooked a dish, app users can rate the recipe and add it to their list of favorites.
"The strength of the mobile channel is its immediacy. To gain traction among users and really work as intended, a mobile service has to engage seamlessly with users in their situation at the time. The new REWE app is an excellent example of functions that are designed precisely to fit the use case," explains Joachim Bader, Vice President at SapientNitro. "Alongside its added value for customers, the app also makes the shopping experience far more fun."
