Government tests internet balloon technology in Brazil [Global Data Point]
(Global Data Point Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The Brazilian government has created a project to bring internet to remote areas by moving balloons in the stratosphere. Using domestic technology, the project will be tested 12-13 November in Cachoeira Paulista, Sao Paulo. The idea is to use a balloon to send internet signals to the municipality and to a school. After the tests, the government will pick companies to develop the pre-industrial prototype of the technology and, if approved, the final product should reach the market by 2015. The project is a partnership between Telebras and the National Institute for Space Research, which specializes in balloons.
