ABDUL KHALIL: The establishment of ICAM Pakistan was done under the act of Parliament with a motto to regulate and manage the profession of management accounting in Pakistan. Ever since, it has been our core objective to produce quality education and maintain standard examination system across the country to prepare professionals in cost and management accountancy to produce competent stuff for market. We are working on non-profit basis to facilitate middle class students who for some reasons may not get good or higher education in Pakistan. With our countrywide network and presence over nine campuses, we are far advance in the development and promotion of professional education in accountancy.
Apart from this side, being chairman CPD activities, we equally give due concentration on the development of our members by regularly holding seminars, conferences and trainings for them, which not only help them to keep themselves abreast about the ongoing trends in accountancy but also develop their profession ethics. We let this trend of professional training of our members continue to keep our members abreast of the changing or developing trends in the global accountancy and through these workshops, trainings, conferences and seminars they are educated on the technical aspects, as well.

PAGE: PEOPLE HERE IN PAKISTAN HAVE NEGATIVE VIEWS ABOUT STANDARD OF PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION IN PAKISTAN IN COMPARISON WITH OTHER COUNTRIES?
ABDUL KHALIL: The term "Professional education" signifies an education for certain job related field whether it is accountancy, teaching, finance, marketing, law or any other. A professional is considered a highly qualified person with required training and grooming from a well-reputed and well-recognized institute or organization like ICMAP, SZABIST, FAST etc.
So far as professional education in Pakistan is concerned, statistics show an improvement in this area and our professional education is much better as compared to many developing countries in the world. At the same time I admit that a lot of work and improvement is still needed to bring professional education of Pakistan at par with international standard. But I do negate the thinking of those who are negative about the quality of our professional education. In fact, this reflects their mindset and negative approach towards national issues. No doubt, in general terms, there are inherent weaknesses in many professional institutes (irrespective of any profession) but there are glaring examples of several institutes in our country, which are imparting quality education and training as per international standards. Some of these centers of excellence are Institute of Business Administration (IBA), LUMS, ICMAP, ICAP, GIK, NUST etc.
