Seething pits of union iniquity
Oct 24, 2013 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) --
The structural flaws behind entrenched corruption in workplace relations would not be solved by a royal commission into union conduct. Some 4,000 union officials represent 1.8 million union members in 2013. This compares with 2,000 officials and three million members in 1975. It is worth asking how unions got the extra money to pay for more officials. Although low-cost, "clean" unions run solely to serve members are beneficial, private unions affiliated with the Australian Labor Party are prone to corruption.
