ITA, ITU workshop to tackle kids' cyber security issues [Times of Oman]
(Times of Oman Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Muscat: As part of the Information Technology Authority's (ITA) continued efforts to promote cyber security awareness among different segments of the society, the Arab Regional Cyber Security Centre, in cooperation with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), will organise a workshop entitled Building the National Strategy for Child Online Protection from October 27 to 28, 2013 at City Seasons Hotel Muscat.
The workshop will be hosted by ITA's security arm, Oman's National CERT, in an effort to tackle cyber security issues faced by children, teenagers and young adults, based on a multi-stakeholder approach.
The Child Online Protection (COP) National Strategy workshop aims to identify risks and vulnerabilities that children face while interacting with the cyber space.
The workshop will also address developing national COP strategy plans, creating awareness programmes at a national level, and providing the attendees with the required knowledge to implement, monitor and evaluate COP strategies. It will also focus on the importance of a closer cooperation between governmental, private and social society organisations in Oman.

ITA's Oman National CERT has always worked to achieve its mission of building cyber-security capabilities to increase the capacity to detect and respond in case of any emergency and also, to ensure cyber-security awareness among public and private sector organizations, citizens and residents.
COP is at the forefront of OCERT's current agenda, and aims to tackle cyber security
holistically, addressing legal, technical, organisational and procedural issues as well as capacity building through international cooperation.
