NTT Com Cloud UPDATE2

(Japan Economic Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) TOKYO, Oct. 28 -- (Kyodo) _ (EDS: ADDING INFO ON ANOTHER ANNOUNCEMENT) NTT Communications Corp. said Monday it will acquire majority shares in two U.S.-based computer service companies for about $875 million to enhance its ability to offer online access to software and data storage for clients globally.

The Japanese long-distance telecom carrier said it will acquire a 100 percent stake in Colorado-based cloud computing services provider Virtela Technology Services Inc. for about $525 million and an 80 percent stake in California-based RagingWire Data Centers for some $350 million.

The firm has apparently been seeking to make up for a fall in voice-related communications revenues by acquisitions.

Virtela, which runs data communications services networks for multinational corporations, will enable NTT Communications to strengthen its cloud services for companies operating internationally, while RagingWire will enhance its capacity of data services, it said.

In the NTT group of companies, NTT Communications has taken charge of long-distance domestic as well as international telecom services.
