Operators start study on mobile tower locations, radiation levels [DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India)]
(DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Following the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) advisory guidelines on mobile tower installations issued on August 1, the telecom operators are conducting a study to know the existing locations of towers and antennas and radiation levels in the city.
According to industry sources, telecom operators started the study last month. The study will include places of cluster of antennas, distance between mobile towers, roof-top towers, radiation levels and structural safety. "The telecom operators have to give self-certification with the details to the DoT, which is in the process of launching a national portal on radiation. The study is likely to be completed in the next two months," said a source.
A spokesperson of the Cell Phone Operators' Association said: "The study is aimed at preparing an extensive document to tally the existing situation with the revised guidelines. It will be used for realigning mobile towers in cases like Haji Ali juice centre where a cluster of antennas has been erected," he said.
"We will use these details to relocate the antennas if required without affecting the existing network," added the spokesperson.
