Yixin.im records over 30 mln subscribers in 2 months
BEIJING, Oct 29, 2013 (Xinhua via COMTEX) --
After two months of operation,
Yixin.im, a WeChat-like instant messenger (IM) application
established by a joint venture of China Telecom (CHA.NYSE; 00728.HK)
and Netease, Inc. (NTES.NASDAQ), recorded more than 30 million
subscribers, the telecom news portal c114.net reported on Wednesday.
Zhang Xing, a product manager of the joint venture, said Yixin.im
recorded an average 32 million messages every day, including 23
percent voice messages and 12 percent picture messages.
Zhang attributed the rapid increase in subscribers to the
excellent user experience of Yixin.im and the joint efforts in
product promotion by both China Telecom and Netease. He said that
most of Yixin.im subscribers are young cool hunters, and over 70
percent subscribers are aged from 16 to 25.
Zhang added that the Yixin.im research and development group will
make further innovations in product and improvements in services, so
as to form unique competitiveness.
On the other hand, the news portal on Tuesday quoted an informed
source that Yixin.im was negotiating with another two basic telecom
operators, namely China Mobile (CHL.NYSE; 00941.HK) and China Unicom
(CHU.NYSE; 00762.HK; 600050.HK). If they finally reach agreements,
Yixin.im will provide free short message, free telephone message and
free chatting services for the customers of all the three telecom
giants. (Edited by Li Xiaoyu, Lixy@xinhua.org)
