CPA Declares November Veteran's Food Bank Donation Month
CALGARY, ALBERTA, Nov 1, 2013 (Marketwired via COMTEX) --
The Calgary Parking Authority (CPA) has declared November Veteran's Food Bank Donation Month in an effort to help replenish the organization's low supplies. Donations can be made at any curbside ParkPlus pay machine or using a ParkPlus cell phone account.
"As Remembrance Day approaches, we want to ensure that there are adequate supplies in the Veteran's Food Bank and make a special effort to recognize veterans' contribution to Calgary," said Dickson Wood, Chairman of the CPA Board of Directors. "With CPA matching donations through the month of November, Calgarians have the opportunity to double the impact of their contributions."
Calgarians can donate by using zone number 3663 (FOOD) at any on-street ParkPlus pay machine. ParkPlus cell phone account holders can donate $5 at any time by activating a parking session using zone 3663. One hundred per cent of donations will go to the Veteran's Food Bank, and the CPA will match all donations during the month of November up to $50,000.
There is currently a significant need for supplies at the Veteran's Food Bank, as provisions are dwindling. Items such as canned meats and pancake mix are among the supplies most needed for the hampers that the Veteran's Food Bank provides.
"We appreciate CPA's continued support" said Joey Bleviss, Chief Administrative Officer of the Calgary Poppy Fund and Veteran's Food Bank. "The primary focus of the Calgary Poppy Fund and Veteran's Food Bank is to provide emergency assistance to veterans (or their spouse, widow/widower, or dependent) who reside in Canada, to ensure that no veteran is deprived of the necessities of life and that veterans are treated with the respect they deserve. We thank Calgarians for supporting the Calgary Poppy Fund and Veteran's Food Bank."
The Calgary Parking Authority will also be providing veterans with complimentary parking at all CPA parkades and surface parking lots on November 11th in honour of Remembrance Day.
The Calgary Parking Authority fulfills the City of Calgary's parking mandates and implements the municipality's parking policies by managing on and off-street public parking facilities, enforcement programs and by providing parking advisory services.
