Businessman Turned Poet, Flash Fiction Specialist Coming to Writers' Forum(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) LAURINBURG, N.C., Nov. 1 -- St. Andrews University issued the following news release: Poet and flash fiction specialist Don Shea will be the featured guest at the St. Andrews University Writers' Forum Thursday. Free and open to the public, the Forum begins at 8 p.m. in the Ronald H. Bayes Writers' Forum Lounge in Orange Hall. A New York City native, Shea went to work as a programmer for IBM after receiving a B.A. and M.A. from New York University. While with IBM, he did a personal project to write one of the first poetry generating programs and published the result in Avant Guarde magazine and in the Doubleday anthology Quickly Aging Here. He moved on from IBM to run his own software company and then take consulting positions. After 23 years in the business world he formally entered the writing field. He has published around 60 pieces, mostly stories in such publications as The North American Review, The Quarterly, and The Gettysburg Review. His work has been nominated twice for a Pushcart Prize and been broadcast on NPR's Selected Shorts. Shea has also taught writing workshops at The Writer's Voice, West Side YMCA, The New School and Manhattan JCC.
