(Middle East Interiors Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) JON DOMMISSE, director global marketing and strategic development for Bradley, on bathroom trends
Please give us a brief history of Bradley?
Bradley Corporation was founded in 1921 when it launched the Washfountain, the very first group hand washing fixture which was created to save workers' washing time, floor space and water consumption in factories. Since then, Bradley has continued to change and improve the way people wash their hands in public facilities, while making restrooms cleaner and more attractive for users, and easier for facility managers to install and maintain. Further, by incorporating water- and energy-saving technologies, Bradley's products promote operational savings for building owners.
Over its 92 years, Bradley has developed a number of innovative products and technologies in the realm of public facility hand washing and sanitaryware, and today is the industry's comprehensive source for plumbing fixtures, washroom accessories, toilet cubicles, emergency fixtures and solid plastic lockers.

Can you describe the current trends in product development at Bradley?
Touchless restroom fixtures stand out as one of the biggest product trends, especially since there is such a strong preference for these types of fixtures among both consumers and building owners. Hands-free fixtures are convenient and simpler for users to activate. They are also easier for facility owners to clean and maintain. Knowing that restrooms are breeding grounds for bacteria, touchless fixtures help to cut down on the touchpoints in the restroom, thereby reducing the transmission of germs and bacteria from users' hands.
Bradley is also continuing to design commercial restroom products with sustainable attributes. It is estimated that plumbing fixtures account for nearly half of total water usage in commercial buildings. Bradley's faucets are designed to minimise water use, and our latest hand washing products incorporate 1.44 lpm water-conserving faucets.
We are also using sustainable and recycled materials for our restroom fixtures. For example, our Verge sink system uses our exclusive Evero natural quartz material, a resilient natural composite material that's easily moulded into seamless shapes. Highly durable Evero fuses the elegance of quartz with the eco-friendliness of a bio-based resin and is available with either 25 per cent or 70 per cent recycled content.
Addressing maintenance and safety issues in commercial restrooms is another product priority for Bradley. Considering that restroom floors tend to get wet and slippery, Bradley has innovated the design of its hand washing fixtures so that water doesn't wind up on the floor. For example, the completely touchless "all in one" Advocate AV-Series Sink, which incorporates a basin, tap, soap and hand dryer all in one unit, eliminates water dripping on floors and minimizes both safety hazards and restroom maintenance.
Please give us an overview of bathroom design industry?
Commercial bathroom design is significantly different than it was even 10 years ago. The customer of a shopping mall or restaurant or an employee in an office building expects the bathroom in the business to be clean, have fewer surfaces they need to touch and also have more efficient accessibility and mobility features not only for disabled persons, but for the elderly and children. Wise architects, consultants and product manufacturers are taking these demands into consideration today.
What are the key opportunities for your brand?
In the Middle East region, infrastructure projects are increasingly growing in importance along with a strong focus on energy efficiency and life cycle cost. Bradley's commercial restroom products drive facilities' energy and water efficiency and help minimise operating costs. The highly durable and sustainable materials we use in our products also contribute to extending the product lifecycle and offsetting costs in the long run. Product durability translates to less upkeep and maintenance, saving costs on upkeep, repairs, parts and replacement products and frees up time for staff to focus on other more value-added duties.
Which product and concepts have performed well in the Middle East?
Bradley's Ablution product line continues to grow in the region as many clients upgrade their ritual cleansing areas. Our Halo emergency eye wash and shower line continues to perform well under a wide range of factory, warehouse, lab and outdoor applications. In addition, Bradley's ability to create custom designed stainless steel partitions has yielded continuing success.
Please give names of projects in the Middle East where Bradley products have been installed?
We just completed Sidra Hospital. We are working with Ahamdi Hospital in Kuwait, Al Jalila Children's Hospital in Dubai, Shamyia Expansion Mekkah as well as the New Southern Border Project in Saudi Arabia. In Qatar, we are working with Qatar University and Udaid Airbase.
What sustainability issues has Bradley undertaken?
Bradley has been a long-time advocate of using sustainable restroom design elements and business practices. From day one our mission has been to manufacture sustainable products and technologies that help customers reduce water consumption and energy costs. We use recycled materials and new technologies, such as photovoltaics, in our products and continue to make our manufacturing processes more efficient with less waste.
What are your plans for the region?
Much of what Bradley does everyday is creating products and alterations of products to meet specific job site demands. We plan to support our long-time local distributor partners in the region to bring more product solutions to the project needs of this ever-changing marketplace.
