Technology in the hospitality industry [Travel & Tourism News]

(Travel & Tourism News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) HOSPITALITY and technology are no strangers. Hotels, airlines, airports, tourism boards, tour operators, cruises – every sector within this industry, the fastest growing in the world, has now embraced technology to offer enhanced experiences. Manoj Ghai, acting HOD – IT Sales Group of Samsung Gulf Electronics tells TTN how the brand is keeping up with the changing trends in the hospitality sector and how technology plays a vital role in this service...

How does Samsung fit into hospitality? The hospitality market is undergoing a paradigm shift with brands vying to deliver the "ultimate guest experience" and technology is playing an increasingly vital part in this service.

As compared with the regular legacy systems, what kind of new technology are you offering to the hotel industry?Samsung offers a range of products for the hospitality industry including smart TVs and LED display units. Samsung's Smart TV series offers the ideal viewing experience for hotel guests with a wealth of content available through the Samsung Hub. The Samsung Smart TV range allows for quick access to content, easy multitasking and viewing recommendations to suit the viewer.  In terms of display units, Samsung recently announced the launch of the world's largest display unit for B2B use but also offers a range of display units specifically designed for hospitality.  Whether it's an outlet promotion or more general guest services information, content can be designed and synced throughout a hotel or wider property network.

Samsung also provides hospitality solutions such as Samsung's LYNK SINC, which offers customised TV content management and a one-stop display interface. Features allow hospitality providers to select an interface to suit a brand or property, select a particular group of guests to receive specific content and monitor TV status, guest check-in and check-out and remotely manage Internet Protocol (IP). The Samsung's LYNK Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology also allows hotels to protect content available to guests through TVs and other devices. What trends in technology have you observed within the travel and hospitality sectors?A major trend within the hospitality industry is that hotels are promoting the ultimate experience rather than product. This includes personalised customer service as well as state of the art technology, which helps to put the guest at the heart of the experience. A greater demand for connectivity has led to increased integration of hotel technology with guest's personal devices such as mobiles, laptops and tablets. We are also seeing 3D technology being used more and more in guest rooms and this will become the norm for the industry in no time at all.

While technology has made life easier, it has also taken away many simpler pleasures of life. Where do you define the limit to technology?Recent advances in technology mean that staying connected is possible where ever you are in the world. This enables guests to keep in contact with loved ones and have access to all manner of content, even when they are away from home. Hotels are focusing more on the experience rather than product, and the demand for home comforts is greater than ever. Samsung enables hotels to provide these home comforts to guests through state of the art technology, and as technology continues to develop so too will the demand for new and innovative technology.
