Cost leadership idea of Volvo Eicher is a winner [DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India)]

(DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) " Different leadership models like cost leadership and aspects of leadership like integrity and creativity were discussed by the corporate honchos of different companies, who competed in the 19th Young Managers' Competition organised by Indore Management Association at Daly College Business School on Friday.

A team from VE commercial vehicles Limited emphasised values such as innovation, best practices, new challenges and risk taking ability as some of the traits of successful leaders apart from being a promising frontrunner. Another team from the same company, consisting of senior-level managers presented a new concept--cost leadership.

Cost leadership defined ways of reducing the cost of the company through new ways and partnership value programmes--which were long term programmes and emphasised embedding the cost reduction culture in the DNA of the employees. Managers of Cummins Turbo Technologies too presented their case on the subject and revealed that creativity and integrity were considered the mark of a true leader according to some surveys.

And then there was an impressive presentation which featured Nick Vujicic, the limbless motivational speaker--who gave an emotional and inspirational speech saying, "Working hands are better than many lips". A team from Anand Motors Dewas gave examples of the turbulences and the reasons why HTC, one of the mobile manufacturers could not do well in the market.

They also stressed giving equal opportunity to women as a leadership trait-- as they, according to one of the team members, were more honest.

The teams were judged by JP Upadhyay, director, Jaipuria Institute of Technology, Aslam Ansari Head, HR and Admin Tata International, Dewas and Amber Arondekar, Managing Director, Powertrain Indore.

Team from Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles Ltd. was the winning team consisting of Prasoon Singh, Vijay Makhija and Sandeep Garg. The Cummins Technologies team consisting of Kangkana Sharmah, Chaitanya Sai Kumar and Aditya Desai was the first runner up and the second runner up was Gabriel India Limited consisting of Ankur Jain, Vivek Verma and Yogeswaran.

Aslam Ansari, Head HR and Admin (Dewas), told in a conversation with DNA, "The world has become a small village and a leader happens to deal with a wide variety of people. The first challenge is to deal with these diverse yet efficient human resources. The leader has to have the ability to look at the diversity levels and be a part of it to make his team work."
