Canon Exhibits Comprehensive Visualization Solutions at Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference

MELVILLE, N.Y. --(Business Wire)--

Canon (News - Alert) U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, will showcase its visualization and imaging products at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) in Orlando, Florida, from December 2-5, 2013. At this year's I/ITSEC, visitors to the Canon booth (#2527) will have the opportunity to interact with virtual designs in a real-world environment through Canon Mixed Reality (MREAL) technology, as well as experience the incredible high-quality images of select Canon REALiS projectors and the RS-IL05WZ short-focus zoom lens. These diverse products can be beneficial for military, manufacturing, research and other industries to help train personnel efficiently and effectively.

Canon Mixed Reality System

Canon's growing portfolio of MREAL Display solutions includes a MR Head Mounted Display (HMD), MR Hand Held Display (HHD) and support of Mixed Reality from a network camera.

The previously released HMD is well suited for a variety of applications including the testing and confirming of designs, maintenance procedures and interactive training environments. "The Synthetic Reality Laboratory at the University of Central Florida has been an avid user of Canon's Mixed Reality technologies for over a decade," said Charles E. Hughes (News - Alert), lab co-director. "Our researchers have used the visual clarity of the Canon technology to develop image matting and photorealistic algorithms for mixed reality using the Canon MREAL HMDs, and have applied these technologies to delivering experiences for situational awareness training, cognitive assessment, and location-based entertainment."

The addition of the new HHD and support of Mixed Reality from a network camera can help expand the range of potential MREAL system usage applications by allowing users to tailor the system to their specific needs.

The MR Hand Held Display offers a conveient way for multiple users to be immersed in the Mixed Reality experience, allowing for simultaneous collaboration and sharing of ideas and designs.

Adding to the capabilities of the HMD and HHD, Canon network cameras will be capturing the MREAL experience from an alternate raised viewing position. This birds-eye view will provide observers with another perspective of both the image and real subjects, which can allow for additional participation and collaboration even from those that are not directly interacting.

In conjunction with the MREAL Display solutions, Canon will also show the new MREAL Platform MP-110 software, which allows for expanded position-alignment coverage using MREAL markers, when the display is equipped with a dedicated position-alignment camera. The combination of carpet-type markers with the HMD or HHD provides a more portable solution for creating the mixed reality experience.

The MR Hand Held Display as well as the MREAL Platform MP-110 software will be available in early 2014.

REALiS Projectors, RS-IL05WZ short focus zoom lens

In addition to the MREAL System, Canon will also be displaying the REALiS WUX400ST Pro AV Short Throw Compact Installation LCOS Projector, REALiS WUX5000 Pro AV Installation LCOS Projector and the RS-IL05WZ interchangeable projector lens.

Both the REALiS WUX400ST and REALiS WUX5000 projectors with the new RS-IL05WZ short focus zoom lens are outstanding solutions for the training and simulation markets. These products offer high resolution, color accuracy, contrast and clarity, helping to create more content and therefore helping to create more details, which can be an added benefit in the training and simulation markets due to the need for life-like images and great detail.

The REALiS WUX5000 projector is an excellent choice for installations in large settings that require high-resolution images, while the REALiS WUX400ST projector can project large images from a short distance without the need for extensive installations, helping to create easier setup and requiring less space for rear projection.
