China Mobile (CHL.NYSE; 00941.HK) to expand TD-LTE coverage to over 300 cities

BEIJING, Dec 02, 2013 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- China's largest telecom operator China Mobile (CHL.NYSE; 00941.HK) plans to expand the coverage of the homegrown 4G TD-LTE networks to more than 300 cities nationwide, said Li Zhengmao, the company's vice president, at the 2013 International Mobile Internet Conference held here on Tuesday.

Li said China Mobile will ensure its TD-LTE networks will cover more than 100 large and medium-sized cities this year, with more than 200,000 base stations. And in the next stage, the coverage will be expanded to more 300 cities.

On the other hand, China Mobile will continue large-scale integrated procurement of 4G terminals, promote the international roaming capability of TD-LTE terminals, and accelerate the maturation of chips for 4G terminals that support multiple telecom modes and multiple frequency bands, Li added.

He said China Mobile has procured more than 1 million TD-LTE terminals this year.

Statistics show 18 countries and areas worldwide have launched 23 TD-LTE commercial networks by mid October, and more than 40 other networks are being deployed or under construction. Currently, there are more than 5 million TD-LTE users in the world. (Edited by Li Xiaoyu, [email protected])
