Indiegogo to Pledge $1 for Every $20 Raised on #GivingTuesday

SAN FRANCISCO --(Business Wire)--

As part of an effort to amplify giving this holiday season, Indiegogo, the world's largest crowdfunding platform, introduces a #GivingTuesday partner page and pledges to give $1 for every $20 raised by #GivingTuesday campaigns between 12:00 a.m.-11:59 p.m. PST today - with no limit. More than 180 campaigns have signed up to participate and more are expected to launch today. In order to qualify as a #GivingTuesday partner on Indiegogo, campaigns must address a pressing social issue and/or drive positive change by benefitting a nonprofit organization, social entrepreneur, community or individual in need.

The #GivingTuesday initiative on Indiegogo will help further empower people worldwide to increase awareness for the causes they care about, mobilize a broader base of supporters and raise funds for the projects that drive global change.

"On Indiegogo you don't have to be a millionaire to make a difference, you just have to be passionate about a cause and willing to work at getting your message out," said Danae Ringelmann, Indiegogo co-founder and chief customer officer. "As a company dedicated to empowering people to fund what matters to them, we're thrilled to join the #GivingTuesday movement to help drive action and contributions for the causes that matter to the world."

From a line of pocket squares benefitting the Prostate Cancer Foundation to a device that helps breast cancer patients test the success of their chemotherapy treatment to a program raising money to teach girls creative electronics and how to code, participating campaigns have already raised almost $700,000. Additionally, there are several high-profile campaigns that have confirmed they will launch on the day of #GivingTuesday.

Further encouraging campaigners to take part in the annual global day of giving, Indiegogo's partner, First Giving, has pledged to give 1% of the total non-profit funds raised by Indiegogo's #GivingTuesday campaigns back to one #GivingTuesday campaign.
