Aging in Place in the Connected Home - The Baby Boomers New Hospital Reality

A number of studies have estimated that by 2020 the United States will be short anywhere from 24,000 to 200,000 physicians. U.S. Census Bureau estimates that the nation's population over the age of 62 will increase from about 46 million now to about 83 million by 2030. Of that population, 14 million will have diabetes and 21 million will be obese. These numbers suggest that technology will be called upon to fill the gap in care that will take place; and key technologies like mobile and wireless will play a key role by bringing patient care and monitoring to the point of individual care, whether that be for patients in home or while they are traveling. This session will cover the complexities of new technologies and the amazing developments going into these types of applications, products, and services within the home. The integrations that are and will take place and how the whole ecosystem and companies involved in bringing these solutions to the home and connected home markets will execute on their plans in this growing vertical.

It will also touch on the barriers to market that exist today and how individuals, doctors and insurers will benefit from these technology integrations and how it will relieve hospitals and other care facilities from the burden of the sheer number of baby boomers that will require these types of applications and services for their care in the near future. Also to be covered is how these obstacles are and will be overcome to improve medical outcomes while reducing costs for the whole Healthcare and Insurance market place.
