BRIEF: London tourism board holds first meeting [The Times-Tribune, Corbin, Ky.]
(Times-Tribune (Corbin, KY) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Dec. 03--Jason Handy will serve as the chairman of the newly-organized London city tourism board.
The board held its first meeting Wednesday and the vote to appoint Handy chairman was held.
Handy said no other business was conducted, although members did exchange email addresses. It hasn't been decided when the board will next meet.
The London city council approved a separate tourism commission for the city of London early in August in a move that surprised the London/Laurel County Tourism Commission.
Mayor Troy Rudder said with the number of events occurring inside the city limits that have been developed by London Downtown, the city or the chamber that city officials believed it was time they took more active control over tourism.
In November, the council approved the city's tourism board members. In addition to Handy, they are Bill Dezarn and Sharon Cornelius, who represent the city of London; Troy House, who represents the Chamber of Commerce; Holly Little, and Mackie Williams, who represent the city's hotels and motels; and Judy Barnett, who represents the city's restaurants.
