Flipboard "Personalized Magazine" Will Boost Windows 8

Atlanta, Georgia, Dec 03, 2013 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- Microsoft debuted its own version of Flipboard, the personalized magazine app, for Windows 8.1 this month. Megan Fitzgerald of local internet marketing form EverSpark Interactive says Flipboard will help make Windows-based devices more appealing.

Already a hit on competing platforms, Flipboard allows users to peruse thousands of content sources and choose feeds on topics they like, assembling a unique digital magazine. These magazines can be shared socially, making the app slightly addictive and rewarding the most engaging content.

Windows 8.1 is Microsoft's newest touchscreen-friendly operating system, and the new version of Flipboard is designed to work across all Windows 8 devices--from mobile phones to tablets to full size computers.

"Microsoft has been suffering from a weak app library," said Fitzgerald, Video Coordinator who also manages content for Everspark's social media. "In many ways they built this slick new operating system before they had anything to showcase on it." Windows 8 was a major departure from earlier Windows systems, bringing the touch-and-scroll interface of a tablet to the desktop PC market. Fitzgerald says the platform's success depends largely on grabbing a bigger share of mobile device users.

"You can only convert so many diehard mouse users to a touchscreen platform," she said. "Microsoft is really depending on becoming a credible alternative to the iPad. And that means having the same or better apps." According to Techland (11.14.2013) the Windows version of Flipboard has the same look and functionality as other versions, which are available on Apple, Google and Blackberry devices.

"Flipboard is a name people know and like. When they're shopping for a new tablet it's something they'll consider," Fitzgerald said.

But she doesn't believe big name apps will win the tablet war for Windows alone.

"Right now Microsoft is playing catchup," she said. "But they have to convince users that something about a Microsoft tablet is actually better. Without that, it's just a copycat."
