TPG Telecom chief defends fibre plan

Dec 04, 2013 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The 4 December 2013 AGM of TPG Telecom heard of good initial results from the testing of new fibre optic cabling for apartment buildings. The telco and ISP aims to connect some 500,000 residential units to its infrastructure, which will compete with the Australian Government's national broadband network. However, TPG CEO David Teoh rejects claims that this may hamper the ability of the NBN Co entity to generate a return for the Federal Government. If larger rival Singtel Optus goes ahead with a planned vending of its cable assets to NBN Co, TPG's will become the second-ranked network in Australia.
