Stark Community Foundation grants exceed $322,000 [The Akron Beacon Journal]

(Akron Beacon Journal (OH) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Dec. 06--CANTON -- The board of directors of the Stark Community Foundation approved more than $322,000 in discretionary grants to 20 area organizations at its fall meeting.

Receiving the money were: --American Red Cross, $10,000 for disaster relief services.

--Ananda Center for the Arts, $7,500 for its String Guitar Festival.

--Beech Creek Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve, $35,000 for its REALL About Nature program.

--Boys and Girls Club of Massillon, $50,000 for its Impact Initiative.

--Canton Calvary Mission, $15,000 for an after-school program.

--Canton Museum of Art, $10,000 for Intent to Deceive: Fakes and Forgeries in the Art World exhibit.

--Guardian Support Services, $20,000 to help recruit volunteer guardians.

--Hammer & Nails, $ 25,000 for Mission Possible 2014.

--Junior Achievement of East Central Ohio, $30,000 for Junior Achievement Means Success 2013-2014 program.

--Massillon Lions Club, $12,000 for digital projection equipment at Lincoln Lion Theatre.

--New Philadelphia Schools/Quaker Foundation, Inc., $5,500 for archive preservation.

--Pathway, Caring for Children, $12,000 for update technology.

--Pegasus Farm, $25,000 for its Investing in All Abilities program.

--Quest Recovery and Prevention Services, $15,000 for programming.

--Stark County Community Action Agency, $17,500 for technology upgrade at its Center for Education and for employment opportunities.

--Stark County Educational Service Center, $15,350 for the Artful Living program in Canton schools.

--Tuscarawas Valley Schools, $7,500 for seating renovations at high school auditorium.

--Western Stark Free Clinic, $10,000 for expenses.

The board also approved two multiyear capital grants: Stark Education Partnership, $90,000 for 2013-2015 operations; and Walsh University, $200,000 for the Global Academic Center.

The next deadline to apply for a discretionary grant from the foundation is March 7.
