NEW FACES Jamie Lane has joined the Kansas Contractors Association as director of membership services, a new position within the KCA. Lane, a Washburn University graduate and Jefferson County native, previously worked for the federal district court and on the executive teams of the Kansas Senate leadership for the past 18 years. In addition to membership development, she will focus on the KDOT/KCA Construction Industry Training Program, which provides skills, safety and management training for KDOT contractors.

NAMES Robert Erickson, president and chief executive officer of St. Francis Health in Topeka, recently was elected to his first term as a director on the Kansas Hospital Education and Research Foundation board of directors.


Kansas Department of Transportation employees in northeast Kansas celebrating service anniversaries in December: 40 years -- David Johnson, equipment operator, Kansas City. 30 years -- Mark Segelquist, CADD & GEOPAK support, Topeka; and Duane White, equipment operator, Melvern. 20 years -- Loretta Mello, senior administrative assistant, Topeka; Martin Arredondo, applications developer II, Topeka; Scott Swanson, public service executive I, Baldwin; and Gregory Laflen, highway maintenance supervisor, Washington. 10 years -- Blair Heptig, field engineer, Topeka; and Jane Holden, coordinating administrative assistant, Berryton.

RECOGNITION Kansas Highway Patrol troopers Chris Nicholas and Jason Edie recently were honored with DIAP/EPIC (Drug Interdiction Assistance Program/El Paso Intelligence Center) Awards for their interdiction efforts in removing illegal substances from Kansas highways. Nicholas received a Lifetime Achievement Award for Interdiction Efforts, while Edie was honored for the Largest Heroin Seizure from 2012-13. Both technical troopers are assigned to the KHP's Domestic Highway Enforcement Team.

Richard P. Miller, administrator and CEO of Norton County Hospital in Norton, recently received the Charles S. Billings Award from the Kansas Hospital Association during the organization's recent annual convention in Wichita. The award recognizes distinguished service and outstanding contributions to the field of health care in Kansas. Miller, who began his health care career in 1971 as the assistant administrator at Norton County Hospital, is the 35th recipient of the award. Also at the convention, Diana Bryant, clinical analyst at Wilson Medical Center in Neodesha, and Vickie Gaddis, social services designee at Coffey County Hospital in Burlington, were awarded the 2013 Health Care Worker of the Year Award. Bryant and Gaddis each received a cash award of $500.

Emma Warren, a travel specialist at Cruise Holidays of Topeka, has been named an Outstanding Sales Achiever by Cruise Holidays International for the third straight year. The award places Warren in the top five percent of agents within Cruise Holidays overall.

MILITARY NEWS Col. Dave Johnson has been named to replace Col. John Andrew as the next chief of staff for the 35th Infantry Division headquartered in Leavenworth. Andrew will be deploying in support of Kosovo Force 18 to Pristina, Kosovo, as the military assistant to the chief of staff. Johnson currently serves as assistant chief of staff for training for the 35th Infantry Division and is responsible for all matters concerning training, operations, plans and readiness. He is also responsible for force development and modernization for the division headquarters.

Col. William A. Ward will be the new assistant division commander for the 35th Infantry Division headquartered at Fort Leavenworth. He will succeed Brig. Gen. David Irwin, who is retiring. Ward also will serve as the commander of all 35th Division elements that are assigned to the Missouri National Guard. He previously served as commander of the Missouri National Guard's 110th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade in Kansas City.

LifeHouse Child Advocacy Center in Topeka has been awarded accreditation by National Children's Alliance following an extensive application and site review process. LifeHouse, a not-for-profit organization established in 200, is dedicated to the welfare of child victims of violent crimes. It serves 225 children in Shawnee County and surrounding counties as requested.

The Northeast Kansas Community Action Program and the Manhattan Housing Authority each will receive a Tenant Based Rental Assistance grant of $75,000 from the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation to help families obtain safe, affordable housing.

ELSEWHERE Bruce Stubbs has been named vice president of specialized tax solutions for Allen, Gibbs & Houlik, a CPA and advisory firm in Wichita. Stubbs, previously in AGH's tax group, earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Washburn University and a law degree from WU's School of Law. He went on to earn a master's degree in taxation from the University of Denver.

Carmen Miller has been named director of public policy for the Great Plains Region of Ducks Unlimted. Miller joins DU after seven years as a consultant on federal energy and conservation policy for the Pew Charitable Trusts. DU's Great Plains Region is headquartered in Bismarck, N.D., and includes the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, Montana, Wyoming and Colorado.
