Software installation hits BSNL services [Nashik] [Times of India]

(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NASHIK: Problems in installing enterprise resource planning (ERP) software in Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have delayed the clearance of temporary advances to employees, affecting maintenance work.

"It has become very difficult to carry out the works for which the temporary advances are needed. We have made payments to contractors from our pockets and are still awaiting the sanctioning of our advances," said a BSNL engineer.

In some instances, the lack of funds has forced officials to either put the works on hold or postpone them.

"Against the demand for 86 new landline connections in my area, I have been able to release only 54, while others are pending. No material is available in the stores as of now. The stocks have gone dry. This has happened because there are no funds at the disposal of the stores to buy goods for the works to be carried out," said an engineer from the BSNL's ND Patel Road office.

Another engineer from the CIDCO area said only servicing calls were being attended to. "Wherever the work involves the changing of wires or other major things, we have put that on hold," he said.

"I had complained about the disconnection of my phone on November 21, but till date, it has not been maintained. I am told that I would have to wait till material was available. The fault was cleared on December 1," Dinesh Jahagirdar, a customer from Nashik Road said.

"This is a temporary issue. Due to the ERP, the administration will be paperless. All services will be back to normal in a matter of few days," said a senior BSNL official.
