University of Phoenix Recognized with 2013 Showcase in Excellence Awards

PHOENIX --(Business Wire)--

University of Phoenix® today announced it has been honored with two "Showcase in Excellence" awards from the Southwest Alliance for Excellence (SWAE), formerly the Arizona Quality Alliance. This year, the University was recognized for its official online degree conferral and transcript acquisition processes, which were evaluated on demonstrated innovation, cutting-edge approach, excellence in comparison to competitors or peers, or overall exceptional performance.

"University of Phoenix has pioneered many of the techniques that are now considered 'best practices' in the higher education community," said Dr. Bill Pepicello, University of Phoenix president. "We are honored to receive this acknowledgment from the Southwest Alliance for Excellence and are committed to continuing to improve business practices that support our students' ability to efficiently and effectively navigate their higher education experience."

The 21st annual Performance Excellence Program recognized organizations for excellence in quality, performance and outcomes. The program, modeled after the Malcolm Baldrige Award criteria, provides not only an opportunity or recognition, but also valuable feedback as to where an organization is positioned on the quality continuum.

"SWAE is proud to continue empowering organizations to pursue performance excellence, improve outcomes and contribute to the economic strength of their community and state," said Karen Shepard, executive director of the Southwest Alliance for Excellence. "We are celebrating our 21st anniversary of the Performance Excellence Program, one of the best methodologies available to develop a higher level of organizational performance."

The Showcase in Excellence Award recognizes organizations for specific process excellence. This program allows organizations to focus on each of the processes and build toward a complete quality implementation. Organizations were encouraged to apply for any organizational process they believe is exceptional, relating the process to one of six categories aligned with the Baldrige criteria.
