Hundreds of people have registered for the upcoming Ooredoo Marathon, which will take place on January 10, 2014. An annual event designed to encourage more people to get involved in sports and raise money for worthy causes, the 2014 Ooredoo Marathon has been expanded to include more events and provide more opportunities. The Ooredoo Marathon will feature a 10km run, a half-marathon and a full marathon, as well as a special children's 1km fun run. Ooredoo is sponsoring the event as part of its commitment to corporate social responsibility and in support of the wider vision to improve health across the community by engaging more people with sports. The company is encouraging teams from businesses, universities, schools and athletic clubs to take part, aiming to make the 2014 event the biggest and best till date. Funds raised from entry fees to the Ooredoo Marathon will be donated to a range of charities in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. The first ever Ooredoo Marathon was held in January 2013, with more than 1,200 people participating and scores of families and friends cheering them on. Prizes were awarded to the best runners in a range of categories, based on age and gender. The 2014 Ooredoo Marathon will start from the Museum of Islamic Art Park in Doha.
