Japanese electronics giant Sony's hotly anticipated PS4 - which competes against Nintendo's Wii U and Microsoft's Xbox One - was released in the UAE with only limited stock available, with retailers warning prior to its launch that many consumers would be left disappointed. At the midnight launch, many gaming outlets were flocked with crowds, with some gamers picking up pre-ordered consoles, and walk-in customers, who faced an uncertain wait in an attempt to secure scarce stock. "We got three times more crowds yesterday than we expected at every store," Kishan Palija, managing director of games retailer Geekay Group MEA told Arabiya News. For customers who did not buy in advance, "there were some disappointments," added Palija. The only consoles still in the store were those that preorder customers had not yet picked up, he said. Stores in Bahrain and Oman had also completely sold out, Palija said. UAE electronics retailer Jacky's was also completely sold out, Ashish Panjabi, chief operating officer of UAE-based electronics retailer Jacky's told Al Arabiya News. Some retailers could not be reached for comment. Retailer Jumbo Electronics and Virgin Megastore UAE also confirmed that they were out of stock, while an employee at electronics retailer Emax confirmed that they would be receiving more units for sale on Dec. 15. For gamers who cannot wait for stocks to arrive, units are being resold on UAE-based online retailer Souq from AED 2,550 ($694) – a high markup from its base price of AED 1,699 ($463).
