President calls for technological progress


(Balochistan Times (Pakistan) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) President Mamnoon Hussain has emphasised on technological progress which, he said, is vital to compete in the fields of business, education and health.

He was speaking at the inaugural session of the Fifth International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) at the Governor House here on Saturday. Acting Governor of Sindh, Agha Siraj Khan Durrani, was also present on the occasion.



The two-day moot is being organised by the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi. The President was of the view that this conference would not only serve as an important platform for mutual sharing of knowledge and expertise among the specialists of this field, but would also help significantly towards further promoting the growth of this sector in the country.

He said that in the context of the present global village, it is imperative to foster understanding, peace and harmony among the nations of the world for a better and prosperous future. Modern technology can certainly help a lot in bringing the people of the world closer.


He pointed out that in the present day world of globalisation, information technology has assumed pivotal significance where data are collected, classified and put into process in order to interpret and provide integrated solutions for further communicating and analysing.

Mamnoon Hussain said that in a progressively more spirited and complex worldwide atmosphere ICT plays the role of an enabler and facilitator to the officialdom and the excellence of administration. He stated that as historical events speak, information technology is a vital element in any development in terms of trade, commerce, defence and culture.

“Today, every nation is in the race to get the latest technology for the benefit of its citizens”, the President said adding that technological progress is vital to compete in the fields of business, education as well as health care.

He said that with ICT being a driving factor in the growth of society these days, the participants of the moot should further develop their capabilities in this critical sector. Mamnoon Hussain also emphasised upon the participants to focus on the theme “using technology to create a better world”, and use their capabilities to make our homeland a prosperous nation. He also commended and appreciated the faculty of IBA for their efforts in transforming the country’s youth and facilitating interaction between the students, alumni and industry. The President hoped that they would continue their efforts in transforming young minds of today into leaders of tomorrow with similar zeal, devotion and dedication.

He also thanked the foreign guests who have travelled from far off places to attend this conference and hoped we would benefit from their knowledge and experiences. “I am sure they will go back with pleasant memories of their visit to Pakistan with a better understanding of the state of social and technological advancement of our people”, he added.

Earlier, the Dean and Director of IBA Karachi, Dr. Ishrat Husain, presented the welcome address. He also shed light on the aims and objective of this very conference.

Dr. Ishrat Husain also apprised of the advancement made by the IBA over the years. He said that in the past five years the IBA Karachi embarked on a journey to transform itself into a teaching-cum-research institution. Dr. Ishrat Husain pointed out that during the period the number of full-time faculty with Ph.D. has almost doubled from 21 to 40. A faculty member, Dr. Saeed Ghani, also spoke on the occasion.
