Camarillo-based publisher hires president, COO [Ventura County Star, Calif.](Ventura County Star (CA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Dec. 18--Salem Communications Corp., a radio broadcaster and magazine and book publisher with headquarters in Camarillo, has hired Frank Wright as it new president and chief operating officer. The company, which produces conservative content for Christian audiences, said Tuesday that Wright will join Salem on Jan. 1. Wright has served as the president and CEO of the National Religious Broadcasters for the past 11 years. Before, Wright was the executive director of the Center for Christian Statesmanship in Washington, D.C. "Frank has nearly 20 years' experience working on Capitol Hill, ten years' experience working with the Federal Communications Commission and various executive branch agencies, and more than 20 years' experience working in and with broadcast media organizations," Edward Atsinger, Salem's chief executive officer, said in a written statement Tuesday. Wright, who has a doctorate in finance, will report to Atsinger. Salem Communications is the largest commercial U.S. radio broadcasting company producing Christian and family-themed content as measured by number of stations owned and audience coverage. When current transactions are completed, it will own 102 radio stations in 39 markets, the company said. Salem also programs Family Talk, a Christian talk format on XM Radio, and operates ChristianRadio.com. The company owns Salem Radio Network, a national radio network that syndicates talk, news and music programming to about 2,500 affiliated radio stations, and Salem Media Representatives, a national media advertising sales firm. Salem runs websites such as Christianity.com, Crosswalk.com, BibleStudyTools.com and OnePlace.com. Additionally, it owns Townhall.com and the political blog HotAir.com.
