Tech slowly replacing tuitions [DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India)]

(DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Bangalore: The rising popularity of learning technologies for school children could soon make tuitions and coaching classes a thing of the past.

Combining artificial intelligence with machine learning, these technologies look at playing the role of a personal coach to school children for subjects like mathematics and science.

"Since it is tough to provide individual attention to every child, technology can help in explaining concepts individually to children, clearing their doubts, giving them mini tests and evaluating their performances," says Rajeev Pathak, CEO and founder of eDreams Edusoft, a city-based firm that has brought out FunToot, a personalised learning platform for school kids.

FunToot's software, which can be accessed through cloud (both at home and in school computer labs) aims at helping children based on their individual abilities.

Says Pathak: "Say in mathematics, the software can not just explain sums to a child, but also give more sums for practice, correct those, and re-explain the methods if the child has got them wrong." According to Pathak, the software reaches 25,000 children, from 50 schools across India.

Currently for mathematics and science for students of class 2-8, the software will be extended to those studying in class 9-10 from June 2014.

"We are regularly interacting with teachers to spread awareness about FunToot and explain the workings behind it," says Pathak.
