Nigerians shifting from kerosene to natural gas [Agence de Presse Africaine]


(Agence de Presse Africaine Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Nigeria is diversifying and disengaging from kerosene to gas and stepped up the green campaign on the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for cooking in homes, according to the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC).Mr Haruna Momoh, the Managing Director of the PPMC said on Saturday while unveiling the plan said Nigeria was among a growing number of countries diversifying from kerosene to gas as household fuel.



``Kerosene is expensive and is imported. LPG is cleaner and safer'' he said, emphasizing that the PPMC had ventured into gas utilisation, which according to him is the future of the world and called on Nigerians to switch over. According to Momoh, the PPMC produced 250,000 metric tonnes of LPG this year.

“Our market plan is to begin more retailing of LPG and lubricants in our 450 mega and affiliate stations by mid 2014 so as to ensure quality and pricing†, he added.
