A.M. BestTV: O Christmas Tree: Fir Farms Face Season of Risk
OLDWICK, N.J. --(Business Wire)--
This episode of A.M. BestTV looks at the bevy of risks that exist at
Christmas tree farms for customers and employees, including falls in the
fields, saw and machinery injuries and exposure to pesticides. Michelle
Damiecki, an agent at Farm Family Casualty Insurance Co., in
Hackettstown, N.J., discusses insurance coverages, particularly at
choose-and-cut operations. Stella Okigbo, assistant editor with Best's
Underwriting Guide & Best's Loss Control Manual, said that general
liability is a big risk on farms, but workers' compensation risk is the
largest due to the potential for machinery-related accidents. Andrew J.
Cole, owner of Cole's Country Tree Farm in Milford, N.J., talks about
the use pesticides, and the possibility of crop-damaging disease.
Damiecki also said farm owners can see claims related to unsecured trees
damaging cars. Click on www.ambest.com/v.asp?v=christmastrees1213
