Apple cuts deal with China Mobile to sell iPhones in China

(EFE Ingles Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Washington, Dec 23 (EFE).- Tech giant Apple Inc. said it reached an agreement with China Mobile that opens the way for sales of the iPhone 5s and 5c models to start next month in China.

The deal, which was reached after years of negotiations, will allow Apple to expand in the world's largest telecommunications market.

China Mobile, which has more than 700 million subscribers, is the largest telecom company in the Asian giant.

The popular iPhone models will go on sale at China Mobile's stores in China on Jan. 17.

The companies announced the deal in a joint statement that did not discuss the financial terms of the agreement.

Apple, the biggest seller of smartphones in nearly every country in the world, has only a 6 percent market share in China amid stiff competition from domestic producers and other companies, such as Samsung. EFE afs/hv (c) 2013 EFE News Services (U.S.) Inc.
