Orb-shaped greenhouses approved for Amazon Seattle HQ [DesignMENA.com]

(DesignMENA.com Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Planning permission has been granted to online retailer giant, Amazon for its new Seattle headquarters that will feature three glass orbs hold a forest of trees and tropical plants.

American architecture firm NBBJ designed the proposal featuring the 30-metre-high transparent globes that is set to accommodate 1800 employees.

"The generative idea is that a plant-rich environment has many positive qualities that are not often found in a typical office setting," reads the proposal document.

"While the form of the building will be visually reminiscent of a greenhouse or conservatory, plant material will be selected for its ability to co-exist in a microclimate that also suits people." With shops located around the edges of the ground floor, office spaces will be divided across the four storeys of the greenhouses.
