FTC in Taiwan Fines Apple USD 0.67 Million

(Sinocast Computers & Electronics Beat (China) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) TAIWAN, December 26, SinoCast -- According to the local laws, Taiwan Federal Trade Commission (FTC) fined Apple NTD 20 million (USD 670,000) for getting involved with the pricing of its iPhone. Apple has been cautioned to stop interfering the pricing of the local telecom service providers and mobile service providers.

The Taiwan FTC accused Apple of violating Article 18 of its Fair Trade Act by telling the three main carriers in Taiwan (Chunghwa Telecom, Far Eastone Telecommunication and Taiwan Mobile) how much they should charge for the iPhone.

FTC said, Apple has no right to interfere the iPhone pricing plans after the sale of distribution rights to the local providers.
