Abdul Basit DOHA: Paris Saint-Germain's men's football team is arriving in Doha on Sunday for their annual Winter Tour and training camp which will culminate in the much awaited friendly game with Real Madrid FC on January 2.
Announcing Qatar Tourism Authority's (QTA) activities in partnership with PSG, Rashed Al Qurese, Director of Marketing and Promotions at QTA, said the long-term strategic partnership has been an excellent platform to promote Qatar as a tourist destination.
"This not only targets football fans but also is a medium to promote Qatar's tourism," Al Qurese told a press conference yesterday which also saw the launch of a TV commercial of the Qatar Winter Tour 'Paris Comes to Doha.' The commercial aims at capturing the fun and passion embodied by the fans of the club and Paris. Although the game is expected to draw thousands of fans in Qatar and from other countries, he said the programmes in connection with the partnership aimed at "the long-term brand equity value for Qatar as a tourist destination.
"We capitalise on this and do activities to showcase the destination; people will not only know PSG is coming to Qatar but also see other tourist destinations, thus increasing the number of potential tourists who consider Qatar a choice destination.
"QTA and PSG have launched programmes, campaigns and fan competitions as part of the second phase of the partnership. These provide a unique experience for fans and business partners while highlighting Qatar as tourist destination," added Al Qurese.
QTA has also launched the website — psg.qatartourism.gov.qa — which will be the primary source of continuing tourist and fan promotions and exclusive content on the partnership with PSG.
Utilising platforms, including social media, TV, large format and print advertising, on-ground activations and tourist promotions, QTA marketed Qatar to millions of PSG fans around the world, especially in France, where QTA opened a representative office this September.
Over the past few months, Parisians have seen advertising about Qatar across their city — from large-scale billboards in high-traffic spots to the Charles De Gaulle Airport. They feature PSG players with iconic Qatar landmarks.
QTA also launched two contests for fans. The Fan Reporter competition saw one lucky but talented fan get selected as the official fan reporter who will follow his favourite to Qatar and report live on social media about the team's activities and tourist outings. The winner, Sébastien Prigent, won the competition from over 700 contestants. The second competition, an in-stadium contest to select five lucky fans and their guests to follow their team to Qatar, was also hugely popular with over 800 participants taking part within one-and-a-half hours.
QTA has also launched a GCC social media competition to select a fan to win an all-inclusive trip to Qatar for the friendly game. Details about the competition can be found on QTA's Facebook and Twitter pages. The Peninsula
