Mr. Wenzel took the students through the session by conducting a deep dive comparison of a Hotelogix cloud based PMS versus a legacy system. At face value, both the solutions seemed to be quite similar since both include an integrated POS system - however, the primary differences were ease of use, flexible licensing models and the unique security measures that Hotelogix’ cloud based solution offered.

One of the most prominent differences that Shawn spoke about was the total cost of ownership (TCO) between a cloud based solution – and a legacy system. Cloud based solutions like Hotelogix are much more cost efficient; they bring in recurrent cost savings year on year. With Cloud based systems, hotel's don't require IT infrastructure like extra servers and server software. With a Cloud based solution, hoteliers just need to subscribe and pay a monthly fee – in case they want to discontinue, they can easily decide likewise because there is no heavy capital expenditure incurred, nor any major business changes made to suit their IT solutions.


Shawn also covered topics such as the real time data backup and BCP mechanism in Hotelogix that provides hospitality businesses with data backups every hour ensuring that their last saved data is maximum one hour old. Such mechanisms are extremely difficult to replicate in-house for any SMB business, leave alone hospitality.
