UD inks partnership deal with Shipcom [TradeArabia]
(TradeArabia Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The University of Dubai (UD) has signed an agreement with Shipcom MEA, a leading provider of supply software solutions that will provide the university with hardware and software in exchange for educational and research services.
The agreement, which was signed at the university's campus by University of Dubai President Dr Eesa Bastaki and Shipcom MEA managing director Quresh Goga, will also open opportunities for collaboration in marketing endeavors based on Shipcom's hardware and software technology.
Shipcom will primarily be providing technology by means of Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), the same technology used in Dubai's Salik road-toll system.
The university's "Capstone Projects" allow students to demonstrate what they have learned in class by using their skills with software in conjunction with technology and apply their knowledge to a real-world application.
Dr Eesa Bastaki said: "The collaboration between the education sector and private businesses is vital. In addition to both the university and the partnering business benefitting, the agreement, which will help both entities grow, will benefit the country's economy as well.
"Our students will have greater potential to learn through use of the equipment Shipcom is providing and Shipcom and its employees will be better equipped to benefit from the marketplace through the education, research and consultancy we will provide."
"It's an honor to work with University of Dubai and we'll be able to bring 15 years of business experience into what University of Dubai students are doing in the lab," Goga said.
"Using RFID in business is a field that's emerging and it's good to get the students interested early. The potential for use of RFID in business is limitless and the students that are going to be using this technology and studying it right now are going to have a great advantage when they enter the marketplace." – TradeArabia News Service
