'Online chat friend stole private pics,' woman tells Dubai court [Seven Days (United Arab Emirates)]

(Seven Days (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) A woman has told how a man she met on the internet hacked into her computer and threatened to publish private pictures of her.

The Syrian man, who is accused of threatening and blackmailing the Arab woman, appeared at Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday, where he denied the charges.

A woman has told how a man she met on the internet hacked into her computer and threatened to publish private pictures of her.

Prosecutors said the 25-year-old Syrian defendant, who was living in Umm Al Quwain, met the woman, who is married, online.

An Emirati policewoman said in official records: "She claimed she met him on a chat site four years ago. They kept chatting on social media and WhatsApp because she was having problems with her husband and she said she needed someone to speak with.

"She claimed he was taking pictures of her without her knowledge during video chats and said he also hacked her laptop." The woman said she wanted to stop chatting with him earlier this year because the situation with her husband improved. She claims the man threatened to share the pics of her if she stopped talking to him.

"She switched off her phone, but he started contacting her mother and friend and tried to ruin her reputation. He also sent messages to her family. She finally told her husband, and they filed a complaint with police," the Emirati policewoman added.

The defendant has also been charged with insulting and swearing about God as he used bad language in his messages. The case has been adjourned and the Syrian was bailed.
