President lauds private sector's role in education


(Daily Frontier Post (Afghanistan) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) "We need to focus on greater collaboration between the universities and the industry to promote research, placement in the industry and creating more opportunities." Stressing on Girls education he said that an educated mother could groom future generation and educated women could play a fundamental and crucial role in guiding children to become productive and responsible citizens " President Mamoon Hussain said this while he was addressing the first convocation of Shafa Tamerr-e-Millat University (STMU) here on Monday in Islamabad .Congratulating the students, he said major portion of our population comprised of youth and if trained properly ‚ they could play a pivotal role in making Pakistan prosperous.



As many as 93 MMBS students of Shifa College of Medicine and 18 BS Nursing students of Shifa College for Nursing received degrees in the convocation. He expressed the confidence that Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University shall continue following a model for such a system of education which provides a blend of quality and values. The President said the medical profession involves a lifelong process of learning. He said despite the fact that their institution has laid a solid foundation it was ultimately the struggle and personal interest of the graduates towards learning present day complexities in medicine and treatment procedures that would make them a trustworthy professional in their relevant fields.

"I am confident that you would always uphold the good practices and ethics of your noble profession," the President said. "Success shall always come your way if you are consistent with your pursuits and committed to your cause," he stated. The President also advised them to remember and follow the oath which they have taken for future professional career.


The President congratulated the 11th graduating class of Shifa College of Medicine and the 7th graduating class of Shifa College of Nursing, and particularly those earned gold and silver medals and other distinctions on their outstanding academic achievements.

The first position in the MBBS examination went to Dr. Qurat-ul-Ain Ijaz, second to Dr. Sidra Chaudhry and 3rd to Dr. Saneeya Nasim. Dr. Zaheer Ahmed Gold medal was awarded to Quainyat Amin Khan, Dr. Mohammad Amin Gold medal went to Eeman Tariq, Dr. Nazir Ahmed gold medal for Qurat-ul-Ain Ijaz and Dr. Sayyed Tauqir A Shah gold medal also for Qurat-ul-Ain Ijaz.

The President also awarded five distinctions to students of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), three distinctions for Post RN BSN. The gold medal went to Sadia Wali for achieving 81.3 percent marks and one silver medal to Shah Qasim for 78 percent in professional examinations of post RN BSN. The first position went to Ms Hajira Gul and second to Shah Qasim.

He appreciated Shifa family for its continuous contribution to in the society and said the government welcomes private investment in health and education sectors as investment in these sectors was imperative for socio-economic prosperity. The President said the higher educational and professional institutions have a critical role to play in imparting quality education especially in the disciplines like medical, allied health sciences, engineering, IT, management and social sciences.
