Limbo for meter reading project [Telegraph-Herald (Dubuque, IA)]

(Telegraph-Herald (Dubuque, IA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The proposed automated meter reading project in Fennimore still hasn't gained approval from the Fennimore Common Council.

That's after the council discussed two proposals at length at a recent meeting. The estimated cost is more than $300,000 with funding to come from the electric and water utilities. Some council members are still looking for justification to spend nearly a half- million dollars on the project. Each system would have yearly support costs of at least $7,000. Included would be electric and water meters, nodes to communicate data, radio frequency equipment to collect data and hardware and software to generate reports and integrate with the billing system.

The council has asked for more information and a cost analysis before it is ready to move forward with the project.
