Corporate governance meet to raise transparency issues [Times of Oman]


(Times of Oman Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Muscat: The corporate governance seminar being held as a part of the 'OER Top 20 Awards' on January 7 will raise seminal issues pertaining to transparency and balancing the interests of various stakeholders in a company like shareholders, management, customers, suppliers, financiers, government and the community.  The panelists will also deliberate on how companies can bring in better corporate governance standards without compromising on a company's objectives, said a press release.  An August set of panelists including Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem Al Salmi, executive president of Capital Market Authority; Dr Amer Al Rawas, chief executive officer of Omantel; Sanjay Kawatra, audit partner at Ernst &Young and Mr Raghuraman, senior finance manager of Galfar will participate in the panel discussion. The discussion will be moderated by Majid al Toky, managing partner of Trowers & Hamlins.  Galfar Engineering & Contracting is presenting the OER Top 20 Awards and corporate governance seminar. The event is being be held by Oman Economic Review under the patronage of the Capital Market Authority on Tuesday at Grand Hyatt Muscat Hotel.  Abdullah Al Salmi, executive president of Capital Market Authority will be the chief guest.  Omantel is the strategic partner of the event, Al Jazeera Steel Products Company is the support partner while Times of Oman and Al Shabiba are the media partners.    The OER Top 20 companies for year 2013 will be honoured and awarded trophies by Abdullah bin Salem Al Salmi and His Highness Sayyid Tarik bin Shabib Al Said, editor-in-chief of OER at the event. Khalid Ansari, partner-in-charge, KPMG, will present a paper on corporate governance and transparency. This will be followed by the panel discussion on corporate governance. The event will end with a networking lunch.  The OER Top 20 Awards will be attended by over 120 CEOs and senior executives of the Top 50 listed companies on the Muscat Securities Market and senior business members from privately owned and joint stock companies.
