Stores' Xmas sales misery [Mirror (UK)]
(Mirror (UK) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SHOPPERS made it an "underwhelming" Christmas on the high street, with December sales down 2.2% on 2012, a report says.
A last-minute spending spree failed to materialise, with sales - excluding online trade - dropping up to 6.7% on the previous year in the week to December 22.
But the figures from accountancy firm BDO showed a boom in internet sales, which rose 31.1%.
BDO said: "Many retailers will have been left disappointed by a month of lacklustre consumer demand."
