Unilever Restates Commitment to CSR


(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) As part of efforts aimed at advancing social cause in the community where it does business, the management of Unilever Nigeria has rolled out its drum in celebration of this year edition of CSR and Sustainability Day.



The celebration which took place in Lagos witnessed gathering of global partners, media practitioners, representatives of select schools among which include UNICEF, Children Living with Cancer Foundation (CLWCF), and Olusosun Primary School.

Speaking at the ceremony, the managing director of Unilever, Mr.Thabo Mabe said the event was organised to offer a platform to review the progress made in its collaboration with various non-governmental organisations involved in corporate social responsibility and sustainability effort over the last one year.


According to Mabe, the essence of the celebration was to present the scorecard and impact made on the community, a critical stakeholder in the social responsibility and sustainability sphere of its business. He reiterated that the company was committed to making positive impact in the society through its various initiatives.

He said; "As a business, we realise that more than 2 billion people worldwide use a Unilever product on every given day. We believe that with this extensive reach, we simply cannot afford to be a company that makes products and sells at a profit. Rather, we see the wide reach of our products as an opportunity for us to become agent of change in the society.

"On that basis, we come to work each day, inspired to play our part as a business to help consumers feel good, look good and get more out of life.We3 are quite that both the planet and the consumers are in constant threats and are made to grapple with these threats every day on a daily basis. We feel these global challenges require collective action from governments, businesses and the civil society. For us, we remain committed to leading the way in the implementation of impactful interventions across our value chain to deliver positive social impact." Making a presentation at the occasion, a member of Unilever Sustainable Living Plan, Mr.Osita Abana said the motive behind the celebration was to reassess the effort made over the years in the areas of CSR and sustainability that are far reaching in the lives of the people.

Osita noted that the project embarked upon by the company was a true representation of the brand.
