Women Leading Philanthropy is Focus of 2014 Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy National Symposium

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 17 -- Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis' Lilly Family School of Philanthropy issued the following news release: A broad cross section of philanthropists, activists, and entrepreneurs in philanthropy will convene in Chicago April 2-3 for #WomenLeading Philanthropy (http://www.philanthropy.iupui.edu/symposium2014/), a national symposium that will highlight the impact of women as leaders in philanthropy.


The Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy's 2014 symposium, hosted by the Women's Philanthropy Institute at the school, will be held at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers, 301 East North Water St., Chicago. The presenting sponsor is J.P. Morgan.

Founders of diverse social impact organizations will be among the speakers at the conference.

* Rachel's Network founder and philanthropist Winsome McIntosh was just named one of Women's eNews' "21 leaders of the 21st century 2014." * Kimberly Bryant created Black Girls Code to provide young and pre-teen girls of color with opportunities to learn about science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields as career options.

* In founding Emerge Global, Alia Whitney-Johnson combined her love of making jewelry with her desire to give a second chance to young Sri Lankan women who are survivors of sexual abuse.

"This is an exciting opportunity to learn from and exchange ideas with the leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs in the field of philanthropy who effect social change in their communities and across the globe every day," said Debra Mesch, Ph.D., director of the Women's Philanthropy Institute. "The conference will facilitate a multi-faceted conversation about women, leadership, philanthropy and impact, looking at the myriad ways women can and do make a difference." Conference topics include: * how the philanthropic landscape has changed as a result of women's increased involvement * the impact of women's collective action and * fostering women's philanthropic leadership in the 21st century.

The more than 25 speakers adding their voices and insights to the conversation include: * Cheryl Dorsey, president, Echoing Green * Barbara Lucas, regent, Mount Vernon Ladies Association * Harriet Olson, general secretary and CEO, United Methodist Women * Julie Robertson, national director, Go RED for Women, American Heart Association * K. Sujata, CEO, Chicago Foundation for Women * Trisa Thompson, vice president of corporate responsibility, Dell * Glenn Tilton, Vice Chair, J.P. Morgan Chase The two-day symposium combines panel discussions, personal interviews and short talks.

Participants also will have ample opportunity for networking and engaging conversations that fuel action and collaboration.
