Additionally, an increase in consumers' discretionary spending will allow the industry to benefit from a larger customer base, as downstream markets will require more cleaning products due to the increase in traffic. However, many operators will expand in emerging markets to benefit from the growth in household sizes, which increases demand for cleaning products and limits industry revenue growth. Nevertheless, industry revenue is forecast to grow over the five years to 2019.
The Soap and Cleaning Compound Manufacturing industry is highly concentrated. This trend is consistent with the industry's maturity, given that soap manufacturing is long-standing. Consequently, sales rely on replacement purchases because most households and commercial establishments already use soap. As a result, a few large operators that have highly visible brand-name products dominate the industry. Nevertheless, the industry is still fragmented, as many players generate less than 5.0% of total industry revenue by attracting a niche market of local consumers.
