(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Elizabeth Yoga-Odhiambo has moved to Safaricom to head the mobile operator's PR and corporate communications unit. Previously, Liz was the group communication and corporate affairs manager at ICEA LION Group.

Liz has more than 17 years' experience in corporate communications, advertising, public affairs, corporate responsibility, strategic business planning, and crisis communications from various corporate organisations.

Among her many achievements is the management of communications relating to the merger between the Insurance Company of East Africa (ICEA) and Lion of Kenya Insurance to form ICEA LION Group.

She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Kenyatta University and an MBA from Management College of Southern Africa (MANCOSA).

In her current role she will support Nzioka Waita, Safaricom's corporate affairs director together with the PR team comprising of Ann Nderi and June Chepkemei as liaisons between Safaricom and the media. Safaricom's internal communications team will complemented by the team from Ogilvy PR.

Liz replaces Victoria Kaigai who moved quietly out of Safaricom some time back to head the communications unit of a US-based technology firm General Electric (GE).

Liz's move is the latest in a series of new PR appointments by major corporate in Kenya.

In late 2013, Annette Mutuku - formerly East and Southern Africa corporate communications manager at Huawei - moved to Microsoft as its PR and communications lead for the Microsoft 4Afrika.

Microsoft also lost Lavinnia Muthoni - its former Middle East and Africa PR coordinator- who moved to Intel as the marketing and PR manager for East Africa.

However, Microsoft had in late 2012 appointed Angela Ng'ang'a as corporate affairs manager for East, Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands from Orange Kenya where she was the head of corporate communications.
