IGS Energy Helps Junior Achievement Make the Entrepreneurial Journey Possible for Columbus-City Elementary School Students

DUBLIN, Ohio --(Business Wire)--

Junior Achievement of Central Ohio (JACO) announced today that employees from IGS Energy will partner with the JA BizTown program on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 to ensure that the program moves forward as planned. Volunteers from the community are vital to the success of JA BizTown and this week, the program was in jeopardy of cancelling for 74 students from a Columbus City School.

For the students of Ohio Elementary, the culminating event of the program almost didn't happen due to lack of volunteers. In response to JA's need, 15 employees from IGS Energy, a sponsor of JA, have volunteered to be on hand, ensuring the JA BizTown program continues as planned for the 74 students of Ohio Elementary.

Each year, JACO provides students in grades 4th through 6th with the opportunity to participate in JA BizTown, a hands-on program designed to teach kids about financial literacy, career readiness and entrepreneurship. The lessons taught in the classroom and applied during the JA BizTown activities illustrate the components that play into real life such as the task of working cooperatively, balancing personal finance and shopping in the JA BizTown businesses. The program is highly dependent upon volunteers.

"We are proud to be a sponsor of Junior Achievement and provid volunteer support for the BizTown program," said Scott White, President and CEO of IGS Energy. "We believe in the power of tomorrow's youth and are happy to help prepare students for their future economic success."

"Volunteers from the community are needed in support of Junior Achievement, and JACO greatly appreciates our partnership with IGS Energy," said JACO President Mike Davis. "Their Power of Tomorrow Challenge for companies, organizations and individuals to increase volunteer and financial support of JACO so that our community can prepare them to succeed in their career is reflected in their monetary pledge and their promise of 50 volunteers. In addition to this incredibly generous support, they continue to step up when unique situations as this occur."

"These kids have been working hard and looking forward to the Junior Achievement program for weeks. To know that the students will still be inspired to develop these competitive skills and confidence the program brings is something we're all appreciative of," said Kathleen Mcafee, 5th Grade Teacher at Ohio Elementary.

JACO is looking forward to working with the students of Ohio Elementary and inspiring leadership and success in a global economy.
