Promethean Integrates Light Blue Optics' Touch and Pen Technology into New Range of Interactive Classroom Products

LONDON --(Business Wire)--

At Bett 2014, a leading global learning technology event, Light Blue Optics (LBO) and Promethean today announced the integration of LBO's advanced Light Touch™ technology into ActivWall - Promethean's newest digital classroom projection offering.

Showcased at Bett 2014, Light Touch™ technology provides the opportunity to transform teaching, using the vertical surfaces in the classroom not only as a point for whole class instruction, but as the focal point for small team collaboration.

The ActivWall is a stunning interactive digital surface that may be positioned both "front and back" in the classroom. In order to design digital classroom surfaces that allow multiple groups of students to simultaneously collaborate, the new ActivWall features Light Blue Optics' unique Light Touch™ technology that supports differentiated pen (i.e. the system identifies whether the contact is a pen or touch and operates accordingly) and up to 20 simultaneous touches.

Jim Marshall, Chief Executive Officer of Promethean said, "The new ActivWall represents a significant enablement in the classroom learning environment. Interactive classroom interfaces that can simultaneously recognise multiple user inputs can unlock completely new opportunities for collaborative learning. We are delighted to be working closely with Light Blue Optics, one of the world's most innovative touch echnology providers, to bring these new learning experiences to connected classrooms around the world."

Andy Dennis, President, Solutions Equipment Division of Promethean said, "Coupled with Promethean's interactive whiteboard system designs, integrating "Light Touch™ provides a highly scalable solution that allows us to develop exciting new experiences while also ensuring a rapid introduction of new products to market. Working together with the Light Blue Optics' expert team has been highly productive and we look forward to collaborating with them on new product opportunities in the future."

Barak Maoz, CEO of Light Blue Optics said, "Two years after pivoting our company around the market opportunity for our touch technology, the first product is being launched. We are very proud to be working closely with our partners at Promethean to bring exciting new interactive technology to the classroom. Promethean truly understands how to delight teachers and students with interactive experiences and we are glad to be part of their success."

In addition, ActivWall features HD images and stereo sound, making the quality of the viewing experience equal to that of a flat panel display. For simplicity, the ActivWall self-calibrates within a couple of seconds when a pc/computer is attached. A live demonstration of Promethean's new ActivWall with Light Touch™ technology can be viewed at Promethean's stand (C116) at Bett 2014 from January 22-26.
