Rugby union gets Shs1.8 b boost [Daily Monitor, The (Uganda)]
(Daily Monitor, The (Uganda) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) KAMPALA- NTV, a Nation Media Group (NMG) company, has signed a deal worth Shs1.8 billion with Uganda Rugby Union (URU) to exclusively telecast live the local league and three international games.
The three year deal, unveiled yesterday, will see URU pocket Shs620m per year on an annual basis with Shs20m going to the Uganda Rugby Referee Society (URRS) In all, 15 live matches will be telecast, including three internationals throughout the year and 12 delayed games.
"This is an important milestone to Ugandan rugby and we are glad to sponsor this fast growing, exciting sport in the country over the next three years," said NTV's head of marketing Herbert Odankie.
"We have also committed Shs20 million to the Uganda Rugby Referees Society with branded kits and allowances for the referee's."
A weekly magazine programme which will span 20 minutes will be aired with the TV broadcasting company bankrolling the annual dinner and annual sponsor's conferences as per the agreement.
"TV will open up our activities to the region thereby giving the game additional brand value and exposure," explained Andrew Owor, the Uganda Rugby Union chairman. NTV and URU are yet to confirm which two live games will be telecast this month.
