Following protests, Ganesha hot pants go off shelves in US [India] [Times of India](Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) AMRITSAR: Following protests by Hindus for showing disrespect to lord Ganesha, the Seattle-based online retailer Amazon.com has removed bell bottoms, waist pants, hot pants that had images of the diety on legs, crochets and hips, informed activist Rajan Zed from Nevada. Expressing gratitude towards the retailer for honouring Hindu religious sentiments, Rajan said, "Amazaon.com has very well understood concerns of the Hindu community for whom it is highly inappropriate to wear images of lord Ganesha on the pants." "Lord Ganesha is worshipped as the god of wisdom and remover of obstacles. He is invoked before the beginning of any major undertaking, so his images on lower legs or backs of pants and bell bottoms is not acceptable and hurts sentiments," he said. In the recent past, Hindu organizations were up in arms against blasphemous act of a US brewery for carrying image of lord Shiva on beer bottles and cans and selling it under the brand name "Shiva". To register their protest, Spritual Growth Centre Committee had even shot off a letter to US embassy in New Delhi demanding immediate withdrawal of "Shiva" brand of beer from the US market besides directing the brewery to change name of the beer brand.
